In the beginning, after being influenced by the shadows she saw on the grass of the trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out to develop a technique which did not depict an object as a two-dimensional picture. The subject becomes a replica of itself, and the canvas carries an interpretation by painting of the object, especially in the case of a living item or something perishable, for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is extremely ephemeral the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only thing from her work that is preserved is her photograph. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so closely coordinated that the end result is a flat, two dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil. The third dimension can only be seen in certain areas, such as near the eyes or in hair. Meade has integrated her painted models within the space of 3D that surrounds them. Interaction between them and this created world is possible. The boundaries between performance, photography, and installation are thus dissolved.
