Her popularity is because she had starred in Whedon's new TV show, Firefly. The character of Summer Glau, River Tam, was a complex character that Glau was able to handle with ease. In the role of Tam her character, she was enticed into government-sponsored experiments in which she was being made to become an ideal assassin. Tam did not have control over her emotions as a result. The show Firefly Glau was in a position to display not only her acting ability but also her fighting skills. Glau's ability to fight was enhanced by her training to become an"Assassin. Her classical education has made her a skilled ballerina. Her dancing abilities include flamenco, tango and many other types. A fractured toe cut her off from performing. Firefly lasted only one season, but gained a passionate following. The fans of Whedon were so enthusiastic, Whedon returned to it after two years. While he was away, Summer Glau continued to get some quality work.
